It is huge. Having a skin that is problem free, clear and glowing the whole time, it is a huge relief. Apart from the aspects of, ‘Wow! That is one beautiful face’, a clear skin is a good sign of healthy skin. We all know that there is more information behind clearing out acne and pimples. Frequent breakouts could mean an allergy stimulant that has to avoided, hormonal imbalance, improper diet, stress, pollution or improper care. While the last 3 are easy to deal with, if you are willing to be strict with your skin care regime, the previous 3 will require a dermatologist’s help. Here we have today a simple yet effective skin care routine for acne prone skin which you can follow to prevent breakouts. If you are ready to follow any routine diligently to protect your skin, this one is for you.
CTM (Cleanse, Tone, Moisturize):
Everyone is aware of the popular CTM routine by now. We can’t stress enough on how important this is to maintain healthy skin, especially if you have acne prone skin.
Cleanse: Once you wake up in the morning, without fail cleanse your face with a mild moisturizer or soap. This is will help to remove sweat, grease, and product build up (from the previous night’s CTM routine). By cleansing, you wash away bacteria and other microbes from your face as the first thing. Within few days you will notice significant results with proper cleansing!
Quick tip:
· Look for cleansers that target oily and acne prone skin. Cleaners with lemon, turmeric, neem, tea tree oil, salicylic acid, etc., are ingredients that fight to control excess sebum and have anti bacterial properties.
· Baby soaps have also been found to work if you are not into face washes and cleaners. The mild formulation is baby soaps will gently cleanse your facial skin.
· Cleanse your face thrice a day with the cleanser (applies for all skin types). If your face gets very oily or greasy, remember to do a quick CTM routine.
· Do not replace cleanser with wet wipes; they don’t work in favor of acne prone skin. You will only cause more trouble by dispersing the bacteria all over your face by using wet wipes.
Tone:
A wonderful step that we often feel lazy to do. Toning your face and neck helps to maintain healthy skin, prep your face for the product to be used next, delays early skins of ageing and adds a natural glow. Toning facial skin is as important as toning other muscles in your body. For acne prone skin, you can use chilled rose water or astringent lotion. You can also pick up other toners made for your skin type. The catch here is to use it and use them right! Use clean cotton pads, and take required amount of your toner. Don’t have too much dry cotton; it can be harsh on your skin.
Quick tip:
· Rose water for acne prone skin is always the better choice. Try to stay as natural as possible.
· Come to the T-zone last, or use another cotton pad for it. Despite the cleansing, don’t risk spreading more sebum to other parts of skin and neck.
· A small cotton pad that is well soaked with rose water does no harm. As mentioned early, be very gentle on your skin.
· Wait for the toner to dry, give it a few seconds.
· Check how best you can use apple cider vinegar for your skin.
Moisturize:
Sebum and moisturizer aren’t the same. Yes, even your skin cannot afford to skip this step. If you have dry or combination skin, you will definitely need the moisturizer. If you have very oily skin, you can check with a dermatologist if a moisturizer can be applied. This wonder product seals a good supply of nutrients into your skin and also safe guards it. Hence, it is necessary. Moisturizers that are gel based, lotion based, or creams with matte finish are the most suitable for acne prone skin. They tend to prevent excess sebum production and give your skin the right amount of moisture it needs.
Quick tip:
· Look for creams with SPF (only and always!)
· Don’t overuse the product.
· Keep your hands and hair away from your face.
· Face serums are a good choice, but it is better to avoid too many products especially when you have break outs and sensitive skin.
· If you are going to use make up over moisturizer- remember to use clean applicators (beauty blender and brushes; clean them regularly!). Substituting disposable cotton pads for an applicator is still better. Give it a try!
· Carry dry or wet tissues and hand sanitizer always. Use these to clean your phone screen after use (to remove the sweat), to clean your product containers (you will be touching you face after taking out the product), to clean your palms before spreading product on face.
· You can use mild exfoliators, besan flour with turmeric and rose water; use them as scrubs or face packs to keep whiteheads and blackheads away.
· You can use some help from oils as well and YES you read that right. Almond oil, kumkumadi thailam, are some oils that help to fight acne.
A little time away into skin care is all you need to welcome and embrace the beautiful skin that awaits. Try these simple and small steps and see the difference for yourself.
