Surat, December 26, 2016: U-Design 2016, a global ethnic wear design competition by Triveni which saw it's third installment this year came to a close. The competition was marked by vivacious participation of young designers from premiere design schools and fashion enthusiasts who were keen to put their design ideas to test.
The competition started in mid August 2016 when the contest was put open to all the design enthusiasts, students and general public. It was widely acknowledged and more than 160 applicants registered for the competition. Out of these, 60 applicants were selected based on portfolio and their general interest. Selected applicants were offered 17 meters of fabric of their choice from the exclusive U-Design collection. The first submissions started with students sending their initial sketches and designs. They were later provided feedback upon the progress. U-Design is an ethnic wear competition which celebrates the vibrancy of ethnic charm, true to that idea, the participants came out with innovations in design of pure ethnic wear and contemporary/fusion ethnic wear. As Triveni, which is an organically grown corporate powered with 31 years of manufacturing base, such platforms are seen as opportunities to infuse the classroom teachings to the real life projects. Three eminent fashion industry names joined as jury members for the ethnic wear design contest. Mr. Dhruv Kapur, Mr. Satya Suman and Ms. Babita Malkhani, were amongst the jury panel which decided the winners of the competition. The work was put on social media where it garnered lot of interest and the voting site over the page received more than 5 thousand votes in a week's time.
Speaking about the experience of participating in U-Design competition, Arushi Aneja, student of NIFT Delhi said “It was the first time that I took part in the Triveni U-design Competition and it offered me a chance to gain substantial experience, showcase my skills and uncover my personal aptitude. This was chance for me to develop innovative techniques, my ideas into a real life driven project. Very few opportunities in the average student life provide such exposure and realistic outlook.” Congratulating the participants of U-Design 2016, Mr. Arvind Saraf, Director, Triveni, said “The energy and excitement shown by the participants through the entire process is commendable and Triveni shall look to release the competition again.” The aim of the competition is to bring budding designers to a platform to make them realize the scope of design and market of ethnic wear fashion. The third season of U-Design in 2016 came to a well received close. U-Design is held with commencement of academic year in August-September every year.
